Lasith Malinga became the second bowler in this World Cup to take a hat-trick in the tournament. In the process, he also became the first ever player to take a hat-trick in World Cup cricket twice.
Earlier, Malinga had taken a hat-trick in the 2007 edition of the tournament when he had taken four wickets in four balls in a game against South Africa in the 2007 World Cup.
The three wickets that constituted the hat-trick for Malinga were Tanmay Mishra, Peter Ongondo and Shem Ngoche.
Mishra was declared lbw off the last ball of Malinga’s seventh over, before taking a couple of wickets off the first two balls of the new over.
Malinga then had a couple of dots against his name before getting his sixth wicket of E Otieno to end the innings with figures of 6/33 in his eighth over.
